Quality & process
Quality starts with a defined question
Useful analysis depends on more than an instrument reading. Discuss the intended use of the result, the material submitted, preparation, method and reporting requirements as one plan.
Verify the testing provider
Confirm the laboratory's identity, physical location, qualified staff and which methods are performed on site. Ask whether any work is subcontracted and how that will appear in the report.
Check the scope of any accreditation
Request the current certificate and relevant scope. Confirm that the method, material and measurement you need are covered, rather than relying on a logo or a general accreditation statement.
Keep the sample connected to the result
Records should let the parties identify the material, sample and report reference consistently. Ask the laboratory to explain quality-control measures and the limitations relevant to your enquiry.
